This pattern is my new go to market bag pattern!

I had recently made one for myself using a free pattern I found on Pinterest and I love it, it’s so multipurpose! After seeing how easy it was I decided to make my own. Now that I finished 3 so far I’m kind of jealous of how much bigger and sturdier they are compared to mine!

The pattern that I came up with is super easy and works up quickly.

So, if you are looking for a bag to take with you to go food shopping, the farmers market, the beach, or to carry around yarn like I do than this is the bag for you!

Materials:

*Cotton yarn of your choosing about one skein (if smaller ones get 2)

*Size J hook (I use my clover brand they are amazing)

*tapestry needle

Pattern:

Using a magic ring

Ch2, double crochet 15 times into ring (ch2 does not count as a double crochet) slip stitch to first double crochet (15 stitches in total)

Ch2, 2 double crochets in each stitch around, slip stitch to first double crochet of round   (30 stitches in total)

Ch2, *1 double crochet in first stitch, 2 double crochet in next stitch* repeat until you get to the end of the round, slip st to first double crochet (45 stitches in total)

Ch2, *1 double crochet in first two stitches, 2 double crochet in next stitch* repeat until you get to the end of the round, slip stitch to first double crochet (60 stitches in total)

Now we are done increasing and making the solid bottom now onto the mesh part of the bag (for this we will be using a v stitch)

Ch5, double crochet in same stitch, *skip 2 stitches and double crochet into 3rd stitch, ch2, double crochet in same stitch* repeat until you get to the end of the round, slip stitch into the 3rd chain of the beginning

Ch5, double crochet in same stitch, double crochet in between the next 2 v stitches (not in the v space), ch2, double crochet in the same stitch, repeat until you get to the end of the round, slip stitch into 3rd chain of the beginning

Repeat the previous 2 steps 10 times (you will now have a total of 20 v stitch rows)

Ch2, double crochet in same stitch and each stitch around, slip stitch to first double crochet of round

Repeat previous row of double crochet s around

We are now moving onto the strap/handle

Ch1, single crochet in same stitch, single in next 4 stitches (5 single crochet in total) turn

Ch2, double crochet in each stitch across turn

Repeat double crochet step until you have a total of 20 rows of double crochet

Ch1, single crochet in each stitch across

Now to attach it to the opposite side

I told my bag in half and line up the stitches and mark with a piece of yarn the first stitch. Make sure the handle isn’t twisted and place first stitch where you marked the stitch of the bag. You will now slip stitch across each of the 5 stitches.

Fasten off and weave in ends!!

You now have your very own market bag!!!
